Aime Guerin
Aime Guerin, 89, of Gothenburg, died May 20, 1996, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born Sept. 27, 1906, at Farham, Quebec, Canada, to George and Melendy Clouarte Guerin. He moved, at age 3, with his family to a sod house at Trenton, then when he was 13, moved to a farm near Farnam.
Mr. Guerin was active with his father in the design and invention of farm machinery for many years. In 1932, he purchased his first truck, a Chevrolet truck tractor, making his own stock trailer which he hauled cargo for 103,000 miles. Cargo ranged from draft horses and cattle to monkeys and ostriches. He trucked from 1932 to 1972, logging 3,000,000 miles without bending a fender. At the time of his retirement he had a fleet of five trucks.
He married Lilyan Novak June 1, 1942, at Gothenburg. After his retirement from trucking, he conti ase never advertised, clients from near and far appeared at his door — especially children with broken bikes and other toys who were never charged.
There was always a sparkle in his eyes as another puzzling piece came through the door — the usual “Do you think you might be able to help me out?” always sparked the response, “I’ll sure give it a try.” And his efforts were always better than an original part.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg.
Survivors include his wife, of Gothenburg; a daughter, Arlene (Joe) Herbs of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., a son, Rex (Sandy) of Malcolm; a sister, Yvonne Hotchkiss of Lincoln; two grandchildren, LeAnna Guerin of Malcolm and Dr. Kelly James Herbs of Clifton Park, N.Y.
