Charles Gilbert Cole Passes Away Saturday
Charles Gilbert Cole was born March 31, 1860 at Muscaine, Buena Vista county, Iowa, and departed this life at his home in Frontier county, Nebraska, September 13, 1924 at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 13 days.
During his illness of the past year he has been a most patient sufferer, enduring all his suffering without complaint and thoughtful until the last of the comfort of those around him.
He was baptized while a young man and united with the United Brethern Church near Farnam, Nebr. July 5, 1909 he united with the Evangelical church at Orafino, Nebraska, by letter, December 25, 1921, he became one of the charter members of the Evangelical Class at Watkins School house, northwest of Cambridge.
At the age of 16 years they moved to Missouri and here he became acquainted with Sylvia Ann Phillips to whom he was married, March 16, 1884. To this union were born eight children, Mary 10 years old and Maude 2 years old, both having preceded him. The other being Roscoe of Cambridge, Nebr., and George of Edna, Kans. Mrs. Gertrude Kirby, Arthur, Verne and Leslie, all of this vicinity. The children were all born near Farnam, Nebr., where the family resided from 1886 to 1907. Moving from there to their present residence.
Chas. Cole was a Christian man of high character, always doing unto others as he would be done by; as a husband and father he was kind, considerate and cheerful. Always living up to the high standard of manhood which will ever be cherished in the memories of his family.
As a neighbor he was all that constitutes a good neighbor, and such was loved, honored and respected by all who came in contact with him.
He was a man kind and true,
Who always strove his duty to do,
The Savior’s example he kept in view,
He taught it, he lived it in all he did do.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, 6 children, 6 grandchildren and one brother, Hartley S. Cole of Kansas City, Mo., and all who knew him as neighbors and friends.
The funeral was held Monday, September 15, in the afternoon at 3 o’clock, in the M. E. Church in Cambridge. The remains were laid to rest in the Cambridge cemetery. I. L. Kennedy officiated, assisted by Rev. Kersey Thomas.
