War Veteran Dies in 99th Yr.

at Fort McPherson National Cemetery


MRS. BEERMAN SURVIVES HUSBAND FOUR DAYS


August Beerman, of Eustis, the last Civil War veteran in this vicinity, was laid to rest last Saturday, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, near Maxwell. He passed away last Thursday, at the age of 99 years, 9 months and 4 days. Mrs. Beerman, his life companion for over 51 years, only survived her husband four days, passing away Monday morning. She was 80 years, 11 days at the time of her death.

Mr. and Mrs. Beerman lived for many years in the Ingham neighborhood before moving to Eustis in 1930, and had many friends in this community.

Mr. Beerman was buried with the combined Eustis and Farnam American Legion posts, conducting a military funeral and burial, as a tribute to this last Civil War veteran in this part of the state. Services were held at the Eustis M. E. church with both Mr. and Mrs. Beerman being laid to rest in the Fort McPherson National cemetery. Old friends in the Ingham community were pall bearers at Mrs. Beerman's funeral. Rev. S. McKeown of the Farnam Methodist Episcopal church conducted the funeral services for both.

The Farnam American Legion members helping in the funeral services of Mr. Beerman were: O. T. Thompson, L. H. Fitch, John Rowland, Guy Stinnette, G. E. Mangus, and D. D. Stebbins.


Obituary of August Beerman

August Beerman was born in Wills County, Illinois July 4, 1837 and died at his home in Eustis, Nebraska April 8, 1937 at the age of 99 yrs., 9 mos., 4 days.

He was married to Anna Wilson September 30, 1885 in Hayes County, Kansas. To this union were born three children: Mrs. Minnie Griffith, Beeryville, Ark.; Floyd Beerman, Farnam, Nebr.; and Mrs. Cleo Allen, who passed away one year ago last November at Farnam, Nebr.

Mr. Beerman came to Curtis, Nebraska in 1887 and was a millwright by trade. He built the mills at Curtis and Maywood, also the high school in Curtis. In 1890, he homesteaded 14 miles south of Brady Island and lived in Lincoln county until he moved to Eustis in 1930 and there he spent his remaining years.

He was baptized in the Methodist Episcopal church many years ago. Mr. Beerman was a member of the G.A.R.

Obituary of Mrs. August Beerman

Anna Edith Wilson was born March 31, 1857 in Guther County, Iowa, and died at her home in Eustis, Nebr., April 12, 1937. Age 80 years and 11 days. She was united in marriage to August Beerman, September 30, 1885 in Hayes Center, Kans. To this union were born three children: Mrs. Minnie Griffith, Beeryville, Ark., Floyd Beerman, Farnam, Nebr., and Mrs. Cleo Allen, who preceeded her in death, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one of these having died. Her true and loving husband preceeded her in death just 4 days ago.

Mrs. Beerman confessed Jesus Christ as her redeemer and united with the Methodist Church in early life and tried to live true to the ideals of her Lord and Master.

Funeral services were held at Eustis April 13, at 1 o’clock in the Methodist church by Rev. S. McKeown assisted by Rev. Unvert. Burial was in the National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebr.
