Mabel L. Hicks
Mabel L. Hicks, 69, 815 W. Seventh, died Sunday, May 9, at Park Place Nursing Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Philip Thengvall will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
Miss Hicks was born on Dec. 22, 1923, on a farm near Farnam in Frontier County to Opie and Bettina “Mae” (Gardner) Hicks. She grew up in the Farnam area. She graduated from Farnam High School in 1941.
After graduation, she moved with her parents to Grand Island. While in Grand Island she worked at the Grand Island Airbase packing parachutes, and later did office work there and at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. She also lived in Hastings and Kearney, where she performed Civil Service Work. Later she lived in Lincoln, working in the office of the Lincoln Air Base and the Lincoln Veteran’s Hospital.
In 1975 she returned to Grand Island and worked as an admission clerk at the Grand Island Veteran’s Hospitals in Lincoln and Grand Island.
She loved to do most kinds of crafts.
Survivors include a number of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
