Ira Jay Stebbins
Ira Jay Stebbins, aged 74, died Tuesday evening, December 31 at 10:30 o’clock at his home in Mishawaka, Indiana. He had been in ill health for several years.
Mr. Stebbins was born March 21, 1861, in Sherman, N. Y. [to William and Sarah Stebbins] He came to Nebraska in the early eighties and took a homestead near Farnam, where he lived until the family moved to Mishawaka in 1902.
He was married Sept. 30, 1891, in Holdrege, Nebr., to Miss Frederika Rolph, who survives. Surviving also are five sons, Floyd H. and Caroll C. Stebbins, South Bend; Hardy J., Lyle R. and Forest D. Stebbins, of Mishawaka; and one daughter, Miss Edna Stebbins, at home. Seven grandchildren also survive. Another son, Leslie, died in January, 1925.
His three brothers, Levi L., Milton D. and Orville R. preceded him.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon in the First Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. S. H. Turbeville, D. D., pastor conducted services and burial was made in the Fairview cemetery at Mishawaka. Mr. Stebbins has been a member of The First Methodist Episcopal church for thirty-four years.
