Eli Lincoln Mercer Passes Away at Cozad

Eli Lincoln Mercer, the third son of James and Eliza Mercer, was born January 31, 1864, near Derby, Iowa, and passed away May 19, 1939, at Cozad, Nebr., thus reaching the age of 75 years, 3 months and 19 days.

He was united in marriage with Nevada Hughes at Smith Center, Kan., January 11, 1887. This union was blessed with seven sons and three daughters. After marriage they moved to Nebraska in 1889. They homesteaded near Farnam in 1892, where they resided until May 5, 1920, when they moved to Cozad where he lived until his death.

He was a kind and considerate father and a thoughtful husband.

He was preceeded [sic] in death by two sons, Walter Lincoln and Harvey James. He leaves to mourn his departure his deeply sorrowing wife, and the following children: Mrs. A. O. Heumphreus of Farnam; Jess Mercer of Orafino; Don Mercer of Thedford; Guy Mercer of Mullen; Theodore Mercer of Orafino; Mrs. Earl Haney of Holbrook; Dale Mercer of Goodland, Kan., and Mrs. Harry Osborne, Cozad; twenty-three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Five grandchildren preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Davis funeral home in Cozad, with Rev. G. Hulsebus, officiating. Interment was in the Eustis cemetery.
