Opie Hicks Dies Sunday
At Home in Grand Island

Funeral services for Opie Hicks, 73, 815 W. Seventh, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. L. Paul Bowling of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Mr. Hicks died Sunday morning in his home.

Visitation hours will be from 2 to 9 p.m.

He was born Aug. 10, 1896, at Jonesboro, Tenn., to William and Indlee Whetsel Hicks and moved with his family to Watson, Mo., and later to Farnam, where he was an employee of the Farnam City Water and Light Co. for 17 years.

He was married to Mae Gardner on Feb. 16, 1923, at Stockville.

In 1942, the couple moved to Grand Island, where he worked at the Ammunition Plant and the Air Base during the war. He was a truck mechanic with several local firms until his retirement in 1963.

Mr. Hicks was a member of Eagles Lodge 373.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Miss Mabel Hicks of Lincoln; one sister, Mrs. W. L. Lena Hines, and one brother, James Hicks, both of St. Joseph, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery.
