Harley T. Barrett Pioneer of Frontier County Dies
Harley T. Barrett, son of Charles and Angeline Barett was born near Rippey, Iowa, Oct. 6, 1870 and departed this life at his home April 17, 1936. Aged 65 years, 6 months and 11 days.
He came to Frontier county with his parents in March 1884, and has lived continually in the community, since that time. At the time of his death he still owned his father’s original homestead.
He was a true pioneer, coming here at the age of 14 years he grew up with the country. His memory of early days was remarkable and he enjoyed visiting with those who, with him had endured the hardships of pioneer life.
He enjoyed reading and was vitally interested in the affairs of his state and community.
On Sept. 26, 1894, at Perry, Okla., he was united in marriage to Pearl Bailey. To this union were born five children.
He was converted and joined the Free Methodist church in 1904. He remained an acceptable member and died in the faith.
Surviving him are his loving wife and devoted children, Mrs. Ethel Owen, Ingham; Mrs. Esther Carlson, Bartley; Mrs. Marjorie McKinney, Cambridge; H. Truman, Orafino; and Guy T. Chicago, also fourteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. J. D. Carmichael, Houston, Texas and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Free Methodist church near his home, Sunday, April 19 by Rev. C. H. Foe of Lincoln, Nebr. The text was taken from 1st Peter 1:3, 4 and 50 [sic.]. Interment was made in the Stow cemetery.
