S. Eugene Wilcox
Word was received last week of the death of S. Eugene Wilcox, 62, at his home in San Dimas, California on November 25, 1935, after a long period of failing health.
He was born in Vermont on Jan. 1, 1872.
He came to Nebraska with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Wilcox among the earliest settlers in this section of the state, and homesteaded on the place now known as the Wiggens ranch near Gothenburg. For a good many years Mr. Wilcox lived on a farm north of here, now owned by Schuyler Wilcox. Later moving to a farm near Gothenburg which he sold to Elwood Clark when moving to California in 1911, where he was engaged in orange growing for the past 22 years.
Mr. Wilcox was a member of the Holiness church of San Dimas. Funeral services for the deceased were held on Friday morning, November 29, at 10:00 a. m. in the Todd and Reeves chapel at Pomona, California and interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, May, three sons, LaVerne, Grass Valley, Calif., and Glen and Keith both of Bellingham, Washington; two daughters, Mrs. J. B. Caffey and Mrs. L. R. Caffey, both of San Dimas and five grandchildren, also one brother, Frank Wilcox of Ontario, California, and two sisters, Mrs. A. C. Lambert of Berkley, California, and Mrs. W. M. Stebbins of Gothenburg.
