Gary Newton Covey
Gary Newton Covey, son of Raymond and Nelda (Rose) Covey, was born north of Moorefield on January 25, 1944. He resided on this farm with his parents where he attended country school until the age of seven.
He then moved into Moorefield where he attended the rest of his elementary school. He graduated from eighth grade from the Moorefield School. He attended University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis for the next three years, after which he graduated from Farnam High School in May of 1962.
He was baptized and became a member of the Maywood Christian Church in 1959.
Upon his graduation from high school, he was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad prior to his induction into the armed forces. In 1964, he joined the army where he spent four years, two of which were in Germany.
After his discharge from the service, he spent three years employed by Monroe Auto Equipment in Cozad. From there he returned to BN Railroad, where he has been employed for the last several years. At the time of his death January 9th, he was employed by Domson Tree Service of Torrington, Wyoming.
To all who knew him, Covey was a witty person and a natural comedian. He had a big heart as far as children and older people alike were concerned. He was a talented artist, portraying a lot of humor in his work.
He is survived by his parents, Raymond and Nelda (Rose) Covey of Moorefield; one sister, Denise McCarty of Wyoming; one niece and one nephew, Shawntelle and Shane McCarty of Wyoming; his grandmother, Mrs. Jessie Rose of Curtis; a very close friend, Lois Stinman and a host of aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends.
Services were January 13th at 1:30 in the Berean Fundamental Church in Curtis with burial at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Rev. Wilmer Seversen and Rev. Leroy Cook officiated with the American Legion Post #95 having charge of graveside rites.
Wetzel Funeral Home of Curtis was in charge of arrangements.
