Obituary Collection

John Schurr Rites Oct. 19

Funeral services were conducted at St. John’s Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon October 19, for John Schurr, 58, of Farnam. Mr. Schurr passed away Monday afternoon, Oct. 17, in the Gothenburg hospital, after suffering a heart attack the previous day.

Rev. A. H. Roesener officiated and interment waws in the Lutheran cemetery at Eustis.

“In the Garden” and “Rock of Ages” was sung by a men’s double quartet composted of George Grabenstein, Adolph Toberer, Floyd Gengenbach, Robert Zeeh, Sr., Ludwig Rieker, Glenn Berke, Fred Toberer and Art Hueftle. Congregation hymn was “Who Knows How Soon My Days Are Ended?” Miss Janet Grabenstein presided at the organ.

Pallbearers were Albert Albers, Geo. Edson, Otto Koch, Lester Gaibler, Albert Bosch and John Bosch.

John J. Schurr

John Jabob Schurr, son of Christian and Mary Schurr, was born in Dawson county, Eustis, Nebraska, on June 24, 1902. He lived in the Eustis and Farnam community during his entire life, moving to his present home near Farnam in 1936.

He was united in marriage to Estel Jackson on May 12, 1940 at the home of her parents at Ingham, Nebraska. To this union three children were born.

He was baptized in infancy, and confirmed in April, 1918, in the St. John Lutheran Church, Eustis. He remained a member of this congregation until his death.

He passed away suddenly on Monday afternoon, Oct. 17, at Gothenburg, Nebr., after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Mary Rieker, who passed away on Sept. 29, 1960.

Those surviving his death are: His wife, Estel, and their three children: John Leroy, Janet Ann, and Jerry Gayle; Six brothers: Fred of Fremont, Geo. and Albert of Cozad, Willie and Martin of Eustis, and Art of Farnam; Two sisters: Anna Gengenbach of Grant, and Alma Schurr of Farnam.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.”
