Margaret A. Dillin
GOTHENBURG—Margaret A. Dillin, 89, died May 22, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born Oct. 28, 1907, on a farm north of Willow Island to Thomas and Catherine McCloskey Dillin. When she was 2 months old, her parents moved to a farm north of Farnam, where she grew up. She attended school at Dist. 39 at Mulberry Ridge in Frontier County. After her mother died in January 1933, she and her father moved to Gothenburg in February 1934. He died in July 1948.
Miss Dillin was baptized Nov. 3, 1907, at Willow Island and confirmed Oct. 3, 1916, at St. James Church in Curtis. She was a long time and faithful member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg.
She worked for many years in the downtown area of Gothenburg. She was a “soda jerk” in the McVickers, Potters and Gallagher Drug Stores, and made many friends in all walks of life. She was also a waitress at various downtown restaurants. She retired Dec. 31, 1972.
In 1975, she moved to Hillcrest and then in 1997, she moved to Hilltop Estate Nursing Home.
She is survived by a few distant cousins and many, many good friends, who were her only family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church or the American Diabetes Association.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Donald O’Brien as celebrant. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Blase Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements, and from 6-9 p.m. at the church.
