Viola Mae Stewart–Amato
Viola Mae Stewart–Amato, 79, of Plattsmouth, Neb., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998 at Bishop Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Mrs. Stewart–Amato was born May 4, 1919 in Farnam, Neb., to Jacob F. and Etta R. (Parker) Albrecht. She married Merle L. Stewart on July 30, 1941 in Brandon, Neb. She later married Dr. L. A. Amato on Feb. 23, 1980 in Plattsmouth.
Born, raised and schooled in Farnam, Neb., she attended Kearney State College and received a degree in teaching at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught school in Plattsmouth; 6th grade at Central Grade School; retiring in 1980. Following her retirement, she worked as a GED instructor. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Plattsmouth.
Survivors include a son, daughter-in-law, Jim and Charlona Stewart, Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; step-daughter, Sally Barrett, Arvada, Colo.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Mary Jane Albrecht, Billings, Mont.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Merle Lawrence in 1964, Dr. Louis Amato in 1995; grandson, Timothy Barrett; and brother, Francis J. Albrecht.
Memorial services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Plattsmouth.
