John Blackwood
John Blackwood was born at Johnstown Renfreshrire, Scotland, on March 30, 1860. He passed away at his home in Cordova, Nebraska, December 23, 1935 at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 23 days.
He game to America in 1879, locating at Woodbine, Iowa, where he resided three years, then came to Beaver Crossing, Nebraska.
He was united in marriage to Caroline Maurer. This union was blessed with eight children, five sons and three daughters. Two sons and one daughter preceeded [sic.] him in death.
After their marriage they moved on a farm near Beaver Crossing, later moving to Cordova, where they have since made their home.
He united with the First Congregational church of Friend two years ago last Easter Sunday on profession of faith, and was a faithful member until his death.
Leaving to mourn his departure are his beloved and faithful wife, Mrs. Caroline Blackwood, three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Endicott, of Dorchester, Nebraska Andrew T. and Ray P. Blackwood of Farnam, Nebr., Floyd A. Blackwood of Friend and Mrs. Margie Shelly, of Denver, Colorado. Six grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, besides many other relatives, and a host of friends.
After a short service in the home in Cordova, Nebr., the funeral service was held in the First Congregational church of Friend, on Thursday afternoon, December 26, at 1:30 p. m., conducted by the former pastor, Rev. William Becker, of Lincoln, Nebr., assisted by a mixed quartett [sic.]. Interment in the Leland cemetery, north of Friend.
