Death of J. J. Gish

Chase, Roy, Evelyn and Beulah Gish of Denver, Colorado arrived here Wednesday afternoon enroute to Juniata where their father, J. J. Gish will be buried today. Eveyln and Beulah spent the night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Carman and Chase and Roy at the A. B. Thrasher home. Mr. Gish was a resident of Farnam until about three months ago when they moved to Denver on account of his health. While here he was manager of Seldomridge elevator of this place. He passed away at 4:30 Tuesday morning. We have not learned full particulars, but will try and publish the obituary in next week’s paper. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the sorrowing relatives in their bereavement, but only can the Great Physician heal the deep wounds of their sorrow.

Obituary of J. J. Gish

Josephus J. Gish, was born at Roanoke, Illinois on April 28, 1866, and died at his home in Denver, Colorado Jan. 11, 1927. Aged 60 years, 8 months and 15 days.

He was united in marriage to Mary A. Wheeler on January 7, 1892 at Colfax, Illinois. To this union eight children were born, Chase, Roy, and Earl all of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Nellie Gangwish of Juniata, Mrs. Edna Stilley and Mrs. Hattie Edwards of Alliance, and Evelyn and Beulah, now of Farnam.

The family has resided in Nebraska for a good many years, and for the past three or four years have made their home in Farnam. Three or four months ago they moved to Denver, believing the change of climate would be beneficial to Mr. Gish’s health, but cancer of the stomach, the cause of his death, had gained such a headway that nothing medical aid could do, in any way restored his health. After almost a year of suffering, it pleased his Great Physician to relieve him of all earthly pain.

He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, a faithful companion, and eight children, fifteen grand children, three brothers, five sisters and a large circle of friends who will sadly miss him.

He united with the Brethern church in 1906, accepting Christ as his only means of eternal life. With a smile as he bid his loved ones goodbye, he closed his eyes in death, revealing the perfect trust and faith in which he had lived with God.

The remains were shipped to Juniata, their old home, and funeral services were held at the Baptist church Thursday, January 13, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Strong, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the Juniata cemetery.
