Mrs. Daisy Craig, 77, Homesteader, Is Called To Rest
Had spent last years In A Wheel Chair, But Maintained Cheerful Outlook
Daisy Caroline Craig was born December 17, 1877, to William Porter and Emma Lee Austin, near Springfield, Ill. She came to Lincoln County, Nebraska as a small girl to homestead with her parents northwest of Farnam.
She was married December 16, 1896, to Henry B. Craig, who preceded her in death on November 21, 1951. They lived on their homestead south of Brady until twenty years ago, when they moved to the Svea Dal community. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on December 16, 1946.
To this union three daughters were born, twins having passed away in infancy.
Mrs. Craig joined the Congregational church in Farnam when she was a young lady, and her life has been marked by adherence to Christian principles. When able to care for others, she worked for a time as a nurse.
Some twenty years ago she fell victim to a severe attack of arthritis, which became chronic and for fourteen years she was confined to a wheel chair in her home adjacent to the Ernest Petersons. Her illness was confining, but she was not circumscribed by the walls of her home. She enjoyed the fellowship of many pen pals, and the neighbors were constantly being challenged by her patience and happy outlook on life.
Surviving is a daughter (Susie), Mrs. Ernest Peterson, her son-in-law, Ernest Peterson, and three grandchildren, Kent, LaVonne, and Betheen, also Mrs. Kent Peterson. Other survivors are: one brother, Ira Austin of Gothenburg; three sisters; Mrs. Eleanor Craig of Gering, Mrs. Ina Rowland of Paramount, Calif., and Mrs. Edith Pollard of Boulder, Colo., many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. May the peace of God rest over her memory.
Mrs. Craig passed away at her home at 10:35 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 1955.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, May 22nd, at the Sea Dal church, north of Brady, at two-thirty o'clock. Rev. Carl Isaacson officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Pollard, Mrs. Jay Rice, and Mrs. James Rubenathaler furnished the music. Serving as pallbearers were Dan McNickle, John Rowland, Frank Wickstrom, Alvin Ornam, Ray Hild, and Vincent Bergstrom. Burial was in the family lot in Gaslin cemetery. The Olesen's in charge of arrangement.
