Obituary

LaVern E. Spencer was born Nov. 22, 1872, at Sherman, N.Y., and passed away in a hospital in Nampa, Idaho, Feb. 1, 1952, aged 79 years, 2 months and 11 days.

At the age of 11 he came with his parents to Hebron, Nebr., and later to Stockville where he grew to manhood.

December 19, 1900, he was married to Stella M. Snodgrass. They made their home in the Curtis community until 1915, when they moved to Farnam, where they lived until the death of his wife, Sept. 5, 1950. He then moved to Caldwell, Idaho, to make his home with a daughter.

Six children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. Those left to mourn his loss are: Everett of Keota, Colo., Dale of Ontario, Ore., Mrs. Harland Davis of Caldwell, Idaho, Mrs. Lyle Goodrich of Mission, Kansas, and Mrs. Emeril Cox of Wilmington, Calif. One brother Fred of Albany, Oregon, two sisters Mrs. Lora McWilliams of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Bertha Cole of Seattle, Wash., 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many friends.

He was a devoted and faithful husband and father, a quiet sincere Christian and member of the Church of the Nazarene of Farnam. The family deeply appreciate their heritage of being reared in a Christian home. Since his wife’s passing his daily prayer has been that the family might be an unbroken circle around the throne of God.

Funeral services were conducted in the Church of the Nazarene at Farnam Feb. 6, 1952, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Noble V. Hunt officiating. The music was by Mrs. V. Whitney, Mrs. Chas. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Pollard and David Banks. Pallbearers were Clarence Oberg, Harold Lehman, Ralph Jurjens, Jay Rice, Louis Klein and R. J. Lydic. Services were under the direction of C. E. McVay Funeral Home and interment was in the Curtis cemetery.
