Gailord H. Bellamy

Gailord H. Bellamy, 60, 1514 Jackson St., Beatrice, died at his home on Thursday evening, Jan. 26, 1995. He was born Nov. 7, 1934, in Farnam and grew up in the Denver, Colo., area. His family moved back to Nebraska and he graduated from Cambridge High School in 1954. He married Sharon Johnson on July 11, 1954, at Cambridge. He attended Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan., on a football scholarship and received his bachelor of science degree in education. He was a teacher and coach in various schools in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and South Dakota. He returned to school and received his masters degree in education from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. He then was an assistant football coach at Central State University in Edmond, Okla., and then at the South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D. In 1972, they moved to Beatrice and he became an agent for the State Farm Insurance Co. Throughout his life, he was involved in strength training and competed in many olympic-style weight lifting competitions. His hobby was painting and he belonged to the Beatrice Art Guild.

Survivors: wife, Sharon; son, Kent Bellamy of Lincoln; daughter, Loraine Hartig and husband Jeff of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandchildren, Nicholas and Kristin Hartig of Sioux Falls, S.D.; parents, Horace and Ruth (Slater) Bellamy of Loveland, Colo.; brother, Robert Bellamy and wife Pat of Loveland, Colo.; two nieces and one nephew.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, United Methodist Church, Cambridge, the Rev. Andy Kwankin officiating. Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Cambridge. Family prayer service: 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, fellowship room of the church. Memorial established to the American Cancer Society with Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice, and the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary, Cambridge, in charge. Visitation: at Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice, until 9:30 p.m. Saturday and then at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary, Cambridge. Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice.
