Dwaine Shinley

Dwaine Shinley was born on July 16, 1925, in Frontier County, Nebraska to Neil Halsey Shinley and Leila Samantha Surber and died November 25, 2012 at Plainview Manor in Plainview.

Shinley attended school in Stockville before enlisting in the Army at the age of 17. His tours of duty included France, Belgium, England, Japan, the South Pacific, Panama Canal and Korea.

Shinley worked for the railroad in North Platte after the service.

On June 24, 1946, he married Wilma Ruth Weiss.

The couple moved to Stockville a few years later and purchased the local grocery store. In 1953, they moved to a farm northeast of Stockville for nine years. In 1963, they moved to Farnam where he sold MoorMan Feed and worked at the Co-op Station.

The couple then moved to Gillette, Wyoming, in 1976, where he worked for an oil refinery. They moved to Granby, Colorado, where the couple owned and operated the Frontier and the Wheel Inn until 1984 when they retired and returned to Stockville.

He, with his wife, enjoyed traveling with their fifth-wheel to Arizona in the winter. In 2008, the couple moved to Plainview to be near their daughter.

Dwaine Ira Shinley is survived by his wife, Ruth Shinley; daughter, Barb (Robert) Baird, Plainview; son, John Shinley, San Bernadino, California; son, Jerry (Patty) Shinley, Moreno Valley, California; grandchildren, Graham Baird, Omaha, Andrew (Amanda) Baird, Norfolk; Kristen (Glenn) Morris, Winchester, California; Brandon Shinley, Phoenix, Arizona; and one great granddaughter, Analeigh Shinley.

Interment will be in Arbor Cemetery in Stockville at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, or Ruth Shinley, 306 N 1st St., Plainview, NE 68769.
