Danny was born Feb. 27, 1944, in Sargent to Vandell and Emma Lou (Metcalf) Grim. He grew up in Sargent and graduated from Sargent High School in 1962. Following high school, Danny worked at Jensen Service Station in Sargent for two years before enrolling at Kearney State College. Following his freshman year at Kearney State, Danny was drafted into the U.S. Army. Danny attained the rank of sergeant and was serving as a Green Beret in the 7th Special Forces Group at the time of his discharge in May 1967.
Danny returned to Kearney, where he met Sandra “Sandy” L. Williams, whom he married on April 6, 1968. Danny and Sandy were married for nearly 45 years and were blessed with two children, son, Wade L. Grim, born in Kearney, and daughter, Wendy D. Grim, born while the family lived in Greeley, Colo.
Danny spent 44 years in the glass business, starting his career with Harding Glass in Kearney. Danny managed Harding Glass branches in Greeley and Kearney. He eventually became the vice president of northern operations for Harding Glass, overseeing 17 branches in four states. Danny left Harding Glass and went into business with a partner, opening a State Glass branch in Kearney. Following the death of his business partner, Danny bought out the Kearney branch of State Glass and re-opened it as Kearney Glass. Danny "retired" in November 2007 after selling his business to his nephew. Danny continued working at Kearney Glass until being diagnosed with cancer in May 2012.
During his life, Danny enjoyed many activities, including camping with his family, boating, fishing, hunting, golfing with a dedicated group of golfing partners, spending time with family and friends and a relatively new hobby of traveling on his Goldwing trike with Sandy’s arms wrapped around him. One of Danny’s proudest personal accomplishments was becoming a pilot and flying for over 25 years while owning four different airplanes.
Stricken with cancer herself, Sandy was taken from Danny in February 2013. Other family preceding him in death were his parents and Sandy’s parents; a brother–in–law, Jim Williams; and a nephew, Stephen Grim.
Danny is survived by his son, Wade, and his wife, Mindi, and their children, Haley and Molly, all of Omaha; daughter, Wendy Grim of Lincoln, and grandson, Mario Grim of Kearney; three sisters, LouWana (Gordon) Mills of Adams, Judy Williams of Gothenburg, and Iris (Greg) Hofling of Sioux City, Iowa; three brothers, Don (Pat) Grim of Central City, Brent (Melody) Grim of St. Libory, and Brad (Marcia) Grim of Grand Island; a sister–in–law, Judy King, and her husband, Larry, of Kearney; several nieces, nephews, and relatives and friends too numerous to count.
