Clinton Dale Beery, 72,
county chief of public works

Clinton Dale Beery, Fresno County’s director of public works for more than 19 years, died Friday. He was 72.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Yost & Webb Chapel. No visitation will be held.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Beery of Fresno; two daughters, Debra Shoulet and Carol Lackey, both of Fresno; four brothers, Glenn of Fresno, Loren of Van Nuys, Lloyd of Wyoming and Donald of Nebraska; two sisters, Inez Howard of Kansas and Esther Brunson of Oklahoma; and six granddaughters.

Mr. Beery, a native of Nebraska, became public works chief in May 1964. Before that, he was an assistant road commissioner in Kern county and an assistant civil engineer for the state Division of Highways in Fresno.

Mr. Beery received his civil engineering degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1951 and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fresno State University in 1979.

He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Air Force in 1980 after 30 years.

He was a board member of several YMCA groups and the United Way. He was installed as president of the Central Valley YMCA in 1972.

Remembrances may be sent to the Fresno Church of the Brethren, the YMCA or the American Cancer Society.
