Ida Adney Victim of Accident
Mrs. Ida Adney, a resident of the Gothenburg community for seventy years, was fatally injured Saturday night, when she was struck by a car driven by Larry Sullivan, Jr.
The accident occurred just after ten o’clock, at the intersection of Avenue C and 10th Street. The Sullivan car was traveling west and Mrs. Adney was crossing the street, south from the Baptist church corner.
Mrs. Adney was taken to the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital, where it was found that she had suffered a broken leg and severe head and body injuries from which she could not recover. She passed away at about one o’clock Sunday morning.
Investigating officers found the accident unavoidable, and no inquest was held.
Mrs. Adney was 78 years of age, having been born March 19, 1877, at Smicksburg, Penn. She came to Gothenburg with her parents when she was eight years old, and had been a resident of the community since that time. Her husband, Laurence, passed away in 1933.
She was an active woman, interested in the life about her, and she leaves a great many friends to whom news of her passing was a severe shock.
Surviving her are three daughters: Mrs. Lou Kelley of Gothenburg, Mrs. Thorvald Andersen of Cozad, and Mrs. Wm. C. Sievers of San Bernardino, Calif.; four sisters: Mrs. Ray Stiff of Gothenburg, Mrs. Minnie Young of Denver, and Mrs. Mary Wallace and Mrs. Adda Fairbanks of Anaheim, Calif.; a brother, George Buterbaugh of Gothenburg, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. I. C. Buterbaugh of Crook, Colo. She also leaves three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at ten o’clock this morning, Thursday, at the First Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Delbert Sampson and Rev. Harry Soper, Jr. Interment will be in the Peckham cemetery. The Olesens are in charge of arrangements.
