CODY, Wyo. — Mattie R. Baxter and her husband farmer near Moorefield, Neb., before moving to Powell in 1941. They then farmed east of Powell, retiring into Powell in 1970. They moved to Cody in 1985.

She was a member of Ralston Club, Star Club, Rebekah Lodge and Union Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Baxter, 83, died Tuesday of cancer in West Park County Long Term Care Center in Cody.

She was born in Farnam, Neb., a daughter of Martin and Ethel Babcock. On Feb. 15, 1928, she married Charles Baxter in McCook, Neb. He died in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Roger of Cody and Don of Clearwater, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Audrey Gwathmey of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Loueen Royal of Cody; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Davison of Powell and Mrs. Luella Baxter, of Kearney, Neb.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Easton Funeral Home in Powell with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Powell.
