He was the third child of a family of three children, whose parents were Thomas Harry and Rhoda Wait.
When just a boy he moved with his parents to Hedge City, Missouri. On March 6, 1881, he was united in marriage to Naomi Lapp of Cherry Box, Mo. In 1881 they went to Calawell county, lived there until next fall.
In 1882 they moved to Aye, Nebraska and in 1883 with a baby daughter and son, they moved to Frontier county. They first settled about eight miles south of Farnam. In 1890 they, with their small family moved three and a half miles southeast of Moorefield, Nebraska.
To this union were born eight children, Edward David, Ada Estella, Thomas West, Charles, Benjamin Franklin, Everett, Guy and Gracie.
His wife preceded him in death July 5, 1948 at the age of 89 years. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on March 6, 1948. On June 12, 1949 he came to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ada Thomalla of Farnam, because of failing health.
Besides his wife, four of his children, and four sisters preceded him in death.
Left to mourn his death is a sister, Mrs. Lydia Nelson of Newark, Mo.; four children, Ada Thomalla and Gracie Funk of Farnam; Everett Harry of St. Louis, Mo.; Charlie Harry of Moorefield, who has lived on the home place; ten grand children; twenty great grand children; six great great grand children, many nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
He was baptized and entered the Church of the Brethren at the age of 25, he remained faithful to his belief during his entire life.
All through his suffering, his mind was on Jesus, for help to bear his pain, often praying out loud to our heavenly Father for strength.
He was always interested in his friends; enjoyed the old folks over 80 getting together. Being a loving father, his going is a great loss to his family, but he has gained quiet rest and relief from pain, after a span of nearly 100 years of the joys and the trials of life.
Funeral services were conducted by Elder Foster Meyers of Kearney of the Church of the Brethren at the Union Church at Moorefield. Burial was in the Moorefield Cemetery.
