Obituary Collection
Samuel J. Alspaw

Samuel J. Alspaw was born in Nemaha County, Nebraska, June 11, 1865, and departed this life at his home in North Nelson April 12, 1944, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 1 day. He is the son of Leroy and Lavina Alspaw.

He was married to Mary Alice McMichael March 3rd, 1897. To this union was born one daughter, May Pearl Dehart.

When a young man "Sam", as he was known to his friends, homesteaded and came to Nuckolls county and resided on the farm east of town, and later moved into Nelson, and was caretaker of the school house many years, where he was much beloved and especially by the children.

Sam always led a straight, honest life and will be greatly missed in the home and by his many friends.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, daughter and husband, (Frank Dehart), his brother Philip in California; and nephews and nieces in Kansas; and other relatives and a host of friends.

A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in hour home,
Which never can be filled
God in his wisdom has recalled,
The boon his love has given;
And tho this body moulders here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.

The funeral service was held at the Klawitter Chapel at 2:30 Friday morning conducted by Rev. C.M. Foust. Burial in Nelson cemetery.
