Bert W. Hampson
GOTHENBURG — Bert W. Hampson, 82, died Saturday in the Gothenburg hospital. He was born Mar. 25, 1904, at Stockville.
As a young man, he farmed and worked for Standard Oil Co. in Farnam, Elwood and Holdrege. He married Viola Derra on July 29, 1935, at Farnam. In 1946 they moved to Gothenburg where he owned and operated Bert and Earl’s Tavern. He retired in 1984.
Mr. Hampson is survived by his wife, Viola; one son, Denny and wife Charlene of Blue Springs, Mo.; one daughter, Rosie (Mrs. Chauncy) Bates of Gothenburg; one daughter-in-law, Judy Frey of Albia, Iowa; one sister, Ethel (Mrs. Folley) Rosendahl of Gothenburg; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and one son, Ronald.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Thomas Mullowney officiating. Rosary will be recited Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at McVay Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
