Obituary
Harold Velte, a prominent and well-liked farmer of Perkins county, died at the Ogallala hospital Dec. 3 following an emergency operation for the removal of his appendix. Mr. Velte’s death came as a shock to the people of this community, many not knowing of his illness.
Clebert Harold Velte, son of Carl J. and Myrtle Rice Velte, was born April 27, 1904, at Nelson. He was baptized in infancy, received his elementary education at Farnam. He attended Doane college two years and taught school one year at Farnam and one year in the Holbrook city schools. On June 25, 1931, he was united in marriage with Roxie Brown. A daughter, Glenice, was born to this union. THey adopted a son, Jerry Leon, several years ago.
Mr. Velte took ill on Wednesday afternoon Nov. 26, and Thanksgiving morning submitted to an appendectomy.
He joined the Trinity Lutheran church in 1943, of which he was an active member. He also was active in civic affairs, having been a member of Perkins county high school board of regents, member of the board of directors of the REA, and a member of the board of the Co-Operative Oil Co. of Grant.
He leaves to mourn him, his wife, daughter, son; his mother, Myrtle Velte Hesse; one brother, Gaylord; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Spearman of Hastings; Mrs. Gladys Gaibler of Eustis, Mrs. Helen Farmer of Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Miller of Coos Bay, Oregon; two uncles, two aunts and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Saturday afternoon and burial was in Grant cemetery.
