Lulu M. Fox Swanson
Cozad- Funeral services for Lulu M. Fox Swanson, 91, of Cozad, were
Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at the First Presbyterian Church in
Cozad. Lu died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at her home in Cozad.
She was born May 6, 1909, in Frontier County to Elzie and Flora
Powell Wollam. She attended rural school in Frontier County.
Lu married Clarence Fox at Stockville Nov. 19, 1925. They made
their home on a farm site south of Moorefield. The couple later
lived in Wyoming, Farnam and Gothenburg before returning to
Moorefield. Mr. Fox died in 1969.
In 1972, she married Don Swanson. They resided at Moorefield and
later at North Platte. Mr. Swanson died in 1998.
During her lifetime, Lu was known for baking pies for
restaurants and people in the Gothenburg community. She had been
employed at J.C. Penny and at a care home in Curtis.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a card club
and enjoyed bowling. She was recognized for bowling a 600 series
at the age of 86.
Survivors include three sons, Harold of Gering, Don (Ethel) of
Cozad and Harley (Kathleen), Littleton, Colo.; daughter-in-law,
Annemarie Fox of Cozad; two step-daughters, Betty Remus and
husband Walter Norden of Farnam and Marge (Don) Cole, Madera,
Calif.; brother, Warren Wollam, Portland, Ore.; three sisters,
Marge Frels of Sutherland, Mary Helm, Beaverton, Ore., and Wanda
O'Grady, Haines, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and several great- and
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, a son, Ray, three
brothers, Don, Joe and Tim, and two sisters, Bessie and
Katherine.
A memorial has been established in her memory. Berryman Funeral
in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
