Ruth was born January 31, 1924 in Frontier County, Nebraska to John William and Sarah Florence (Slightom) Weiss. She passed away October 30, 2014 in the Plainview Hospital. There will be a graveside service at the Arbor Cemetery at Stockville, Nebraska on November 7th at 11:00 A.M. with a lunch to follow at the Stockville Fairgrounds.

She went to country schools, then high school in Stockville where she met Dwaine. After high school she moved to California with her sister Mary where she went to Beauty School and worked in an airplane factory as a dispatcher. She later came to North Platte and worked. She married Dwaine Ira Shinley on June 24, 1946. They then moved to Stockville, where they owned and operated a grocery store. In 1953, they moved to a farm in Frontier County, north and east of Stockville, where they farmed until 1963. While on the farm she worked at the courthouse in Frontier County in Stockville. They moved to Farnam, Nebraska in 1964 where she worked at the high school as secretary. In 1976, they moved to Gillette, Wyoming where Dwaine worked at an oil refinery. In 1978, they moved to Colorado where they owned and operated the Frontier Motel and Wheel Inn Motel in Granby. They sold that and bought the Shadow Mountain Motel in Grand Lake, Colorado. They moved back to Stockville to retire in 1984. They had a 5th wheel trailer that they traveled to Arizona and the southwest in the winters. They moved to Plainview, Nebraska in 2008.

Survivors include daughter, Barbara (Robert) Baird of Plainview; son, John Shinley of San Bernardino, California and son Jerry (Patty) Shinley of Moreno Valley, California; grandchildren, Graham Baird of Omaha, Nebraska, Andrew (Amanda) Baird of rural Plainview, Kristen (Glenn) Morris of Winchester, California, Brandon Shinley of Phoenix, Arizona; one great granddaughter, Analeigh Shinley of Phoenix and one greatgrandson, Aiden Baird of rural Plainview. Interment will be at Arbor Cemetery in Stockville, Nebraska.
