Chester Dean (Chet) Scherer
The patriarch of the Scherer family has left this earth and was embraced by his Lord and Savior.
Chester Dean (Chet) Scherer passed away peacefully on September 5, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.
Chester was born on March 27, 1935 in Curtis, Nebraska to Forrest and Evelyn Scherer.
While growing up he lived on a farm and went to a country school. He attended his first two years of high school at Curtis Tech School and then graduated from Farnam High School. He also was able to attend his 50th class reunion. In 1958 he moved to California, the same year the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn. He worked for the Southern California Gas Company as a supervisor for 38 years. Chet loved sports and was a huge Dodger fan. Chet cherished his family and was involved in, and never missed a basketball, football, soccer, baseball and softball game of his children and grandchildren.
Chet is survived by his loving wife, Mary who was devoted to him for fifty four years. Four children, Gloria (Stice), Sheila (Duclos), Brad and Scott Scherer; Son in law David Stice and daughter in laws' Pam and Shelley Scherer. Ten grandchildren: Sean and Stacy Duclos, Jason and Melissa Miller, Shannon and Mike Nichols, Amber Morel, Tonya Duclos, Brittanny Dunworth, Kassi Scherer, Cydnee Scherer, Jacob Scherer and Rachel Stice. Six great grandchildren: Patrick Nichols, Chloe Nichols, Emily Duclos, Jake Duclose, Mark Nichols and Nickson Miller. His sister in law, Janet Homsley and brother in laws' Mike Homsley and Harold Harm.
He was proceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Evelyn Scherer, his sister Gayle Harm, his brother Frosty Scherer, his Aunt Pearl and Uncle Elijah Ramsey of Curtis and nephew Kelly Harm of Harvard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or the Heart Association.
We will all miss him so much, but we have the hope that we will see him again.
