Samuel DuPree Ralston

Samuel DuPree Ralston was born in County Down, Ireland, July passed away very suddenly from a heart attack at his home in Farnam on Monday, May 26, 1957.

He was one of thirteen children born to John and Mary Ralston. As a member of this family he was brought to Willow Island, Nebraska in 1884.

On June 12, 1907, he was married to Jessie Johnston at Farnam, Nebraska and to this union was born a son John and a daughter, Jean.

During most of his life he resided in Dawson and Lincoln counties where he founded the Stockmans State Bank at Cozad and continued it’s operation until it and the Cozad State Bank consolidated in the 1930’s. Eleven years ago he sold his interest in this bank, retired, and moved to Farnam where he has resided ever since.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie of Farnam, his daughter Jean of Stockton, California and his son, John of Quincy, Washington; his brother Frank of Gothenburg and his sister, Mrs. Jean Taylor of North Platte and his neices and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Ralston were held Friday afternoon, May 31 at 2:30 o’clock at the Olesen Funeral Home in Gothenburg. Rev. Wm. Mulford, pastor of the Cozad Presbyterian church officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Arch Trimble and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Geiken sang “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” and “Under His Wings”. Mrs. Eugene Hecox accompanied them at the organ.

Serving as casket bearers were George W. Taylor, Hugh Ralston, Joe Allen, Elwood Brown, Russell Wilcox, and Vern Brouillette. Interment was in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
