Donald S. Preitauer, 81, of Grand Island, passed away Sept. 10, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

He was born May 22, 1925, to Albert and Mabel Spencer Preitauer in North Platte. As a young boy he grew up and attended school in North Platte.

Donald joined the Army in June 1944 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.

He was a custodian at the Vocational Technical College in Curtis for several years.

He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing his friends. He had been a resident of the Grand Island Veterans Home for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna (John) Retich of West Land, Mich., and Shari Cran-fill of Oklahoma City; a sister, Francine (Ronnie) Jenkins of North Platte; a sister-in-law Anita Preitauer of California; a stepbrother Harold (Mildred) Magee of Brule; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Stan and Gale; a stepbrother, Vernon; and a sister, Alberta Wilhelmson.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors. The Rev. Steve Jergensen will officiate at the service.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
