Obituary Collection
Virginia Hacker Phillips

Mrs. Virginia Hacker Phillips, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Thomas Hacker, was born on March 7th, 1857 at Fairland, Indiana and departed this life Sept. 4th, 1924. Age 87 years, 5 months and 27 days. Death came as the result of a sudden attack of heart disease.

In early youth she united with the Methodist church and has always taken an active part in all church work of her community. She grew to womanhood near Humbolt, Nebr. in one of the pioneer homes of the state.

On Nov. 4, 1873, she was united in marriage with Mr. Hannibal Phillips and after nine years residence near Humbolt they moved to a farm near Farnam where they made their home until about fifteen years ago when they moved to Haxtun, Color., where they were living at the time of her death. The home was blessed with eight children, seven of whom are living to mourn her leave. They are: Freeland Phillips of Brady, Mrs. Ellis Fitch and Jesse Phillips of Dickens, Mrs. Goldie Dekker and Chester Phillips of Haxtun, Colo., Mrs. Lilly McIntyre of Littleton, Colo., and Mrs. Bernice Jones who was unable to attend the funeral, these with her husband, two sisters; Mrs. B.P. Cole of Otego, Kansas, Mrs. J.B. Kitchen of Farnam and one brother J.C. Hacker, mourn the loss of a noble, loving mother, wife and sister.

Seldom are a husband and wife privileged with each others companionship for nearly 52 years as were Mr. and Mrs. Phillips. Another unusual privilege accorded the bereaved home has been that of the Hacker reunion which has met annually for the past 18 years. The last of these occasions attended by Mrs. Phillips was the reunion held in August, 1923. Since that occasion, Mrs. Phillips is the fifth of the group to be called to the eternal home to await that final reunion in the morning of the resurrection. Mrs. Phillips will no doubt be remembered by her many Farnam friends who she made while they lived in this vicinity.
