Susie P. Peterson

Susie P. Peterson, 91, of Brady died July 14, 2001, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 5, 1910, south of Brady to Henry and Daisy Austin Craig. She graduated from Farnam High School in 1927, and taught school for many years at several country schools. She also was a substitute teacher at Brady High School after she received her teaching degree from Kearney State College.

On Dec. 18, 1931, she married Ernest E. Peterson, the first couple married at the Svea Dal Covenant Church in Wild Horse Valley. They lived on a farm north of Brady until 1958 when they moved into Brady. They were married for 64 years. He preceded her in death March 13, 1996. She enjoyed touching lives through teaching. For her 91st birthday she received a computer and was continuing her education by learning to use it.

Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Svea Dal Covenant Church in Wild Horse Valley north of Brady where she served as the first woman Sunday School superintendent and was a member of the Svea Dal Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the Spannuth Club and served as secretary for the Senior Citizens at the Community Building in Brady. She joined the United Methodist Church in Brady, was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Retired Teachers Association and the Brady Lioness organization.

Survivors include a son, Kent (Marian) of Brady; eight grandchildren, Corrine (Dirk) Reichert Vandenberg of Phoenix, Tamera (Rocky) Herrick of St. Johns, Ariz., Joni Peterson of Kearney, Craig (Kathy) Peterson of Longmont, Colo., Brent (Deanna) Peterson of Brady, Jack Melcher Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Sheryl (Dan) Charleston of Escondido, Calif., and Marcia (Patrick) Stamm of Menifee, Calif.; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, LaVonne Reichert and Betheen Melcher; twin infant sisters; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Brady with the Revs. Bill Bicket and Delmar Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
