Obituary Collection
Juanita Leslie Page

Juanita Leslie Page, 93, died April 25, 2000 at her home south of Farnam.

She was born Oct. 8, 1906, at her parents' ranch near Springview. She was the fourth of nine children born to Henry and Mary Jackson Estes. She was raised on the ranch and learned the importance of hard work.

She attended school through eighth grade at New Hope School near Springview. Due to her father becoming ill, she stayed home to help out while the rest of the family finished high school.

At age 25, she was still interested in going to school. Daniel Page was an old neighbor who was homesteading in Bennett County, S.D. The two exchanged letters and he offered to lend her $100 for school. He drove her up to Spearfish, S.D., and when they got there he asked her to marry him. They were married on June 9, 1931, at Rapid City, S.D.

She worked along side her husband in the ranching business in Bennett County and later in Jackson County, S.D. She also gardened, canned, baked bread and tended chickens. She spent many hours quilting, embroidering and crocheting items, which she shared with her family and friends. She was a member of the Interior (S.D.) Current Events Club and the American Legion.

She had lived south of Farnam for the past year and a half.

Survivors include seven daughters, Betty Leach of Interior, S.D., Bonnie Risse of Martin, S.D., Verna Lines of Topeka, Kan., Jerry Fanning of Tuthill, S.D., Pearl Wilsey of Philip, S.D., Shirley Kingsbury of Rapid City, S.D., and Kathy Beach of Wall, S.D.; three sons, Frank of Hermosa, S.D., Dennis of Interior and George of Riverton, Wyo.; a sister, Rhea Brill of Porcupine, S.D.; 39 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, four brothers, two grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Springview with the Rev. Mary Jensen of the United Methodist Church officiating.

Blase Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg is in charge of arrangements.
