Everett W. Oman

Everett W. Oman, 86, of Kearney formerly of Gothenburg died Aug. 19, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Oct. 19, 1916, to Victor and Mary Crossgrove Oman, south of Gothenburg. He graduated for Gothenburg High School and attended the Nebraska Weslyan University. In his teen years he was one of the first to receive Eagle Scout Rank.

On Dec. 5 1937, he married Minerva Olesen at her parent's home in Gothenburg. During World War II, he was stationed in Belfast, Ireland with Lockheed Aircraft. He owned and operated the Nifty Cleaners in Gothenburg and One Hour Martinizing in Kearney. He also sold real estate and did insurance adjusting.

Mr. Oman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he had served as Elder and Deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Minerva of Kearney; two daughters, Cyndy (Gary) Robinson of Kearney and Nanette (Jeff) Beattie of Sumner; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two great-granddaughters.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Kearney, First Presbyterian Church of Gothenburg or Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Gothenburg Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Robinson officiating.
