Killed in Action
Howard Nickerson is another Frontier county boy who has paid the supreme sacrifice. Word was received last week by his mother, Mrs. Marion Messersmith, that he was killed in action on October 12th. Howard volunteered soon after war was declared in Co. L, at Gothenburg, Nebr., and was sent to Deming, New Mex. He was sent to France last June and was in active service at the front almost immediately after arriving over there. The mother has the sincere sympathy of the community in her grief. We all knew that some of our boys would in all probability, not come back, but somehow we all hoped that “our” boy would not be among them. Our hearts go out to the sorrowing mother and other relatives.
