Agnes M. (Agnew) Murphy
Agnes M. Agnew, daughter of James Agnew and Julia Kelley, was born in Cobourg, Canada, June 13th, 1874.
She came to Farnam in May 1887 from Oil City, Pennsylvania, with her adopted parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Wrin, with whom she made her home until date of her marriage. With her husband they located on a farm four miles west of Farnam, where they resided until called to her reward.
June 20th, 1900 she was united in marriage to John W. Murphy by Rev. Father Ress, having the distinction of being the first Catholic wedding to be performed in Farnam.
To this union one son, Bernard James, of Sidney, was born.
She had been taking treatments since June 1930 with Dr. Reeves and Dr. Liggitt of Farnam. Febr. 5th, 1931 she was taken to the Good Samaritan hospital in Kearney, and placed under the care of Dr. R. S. Johnston, specialist. On April 23, she was taken to St. Joseph's hospital, Omaha, and placed under the care of Dr. Dishong, specialist. Every attention was given her by noted physicians and nurses, but she gradually faded away. Her husband noting her strength failing brought her home to the Reeves Memorial hospital in Farnam May 16. The following day at 2:00 p. m. her soul took its flight to God, at the age of 54 years, 6 months and 13 days. She received her last sacraments before leaving Omaha.
Funeral services were held here at the Catholic church Tuesday forenoon and burial was made in the Catholic cemetery here. Rev. Joseph Micheler, of Curtis, conducted the services.
Throughout her life the deceased was a staunch member of the Catholic church and persevered in that faith till death. May God reward the life she led with eternal happiness and peace.
