Ella Antonia (Dreher) Montgomery

Ella Antonia (Dreher) Montgomery, 66, of Farnam, NE died January 28, 1982. She was born March 7, 1915 at Dillingham, CO to Karl Joseph Dreher and Emma Emilie Wagner.

Ella married her sweetheart Dale Clifton Montgomery on July 31, 1938. They started a grocery business in Edison, NE in 1938. In 1940 they moved the grocery business to Farnam, NE. In 1946 they added hardware and dry goods and worked side-by-side in their "Montgomery’s IGA and General Store" until they retired in 1980. They had three children during this time, Merlin, Gwen, and Calvin. They enjoyed their family, friends, United Methodist Church and community activities. Ella preceded Dale in death in 1982.

Ella worked with her husband each day at the store. When Dale served in the Navy during World War II out in the Atlantic she continued to run the store and raise the children in Farnam. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the church choir, the Methodist Women, the Eastern Star, The Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family, friends, church activities, playing the piano and organ, reading, gardening, painting/sketching, golf, playing bridge, and taking trips.

She was a wonderful wife and mother and is greatly loved and missed by her husband; a daughter, Gwen Elois (Montgomery) Linker of Denver, CO; two sons, Merlin Walter Montgomery of Lilliwaup, WA, and Calvin Dale Montgomery of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, Tom, Emily, and Annie Montgomery of Tucson, AZ; George Linker of Santa Barbara, CA; and Chris Linker of Denver, CO; two sisters, Verna Henietta Rieker, her twin sister Edna Gazella Bartruff of Eustis, NE; two brothers, Wenzel Fredrick & Raymond Karl Dreher of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl Joseph & Emma Emilie (Wagner) Dreher; a sister Myrtle Lenore Dreher; a brother, Walter Joseph Dreher of El Cerrioto, CA.

Memorial Services were held at 10:00 a.m. – February 1, 1982 at the United Methodist Church in Farnam, NE. Interment at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. NE. (Grave "1139", Section "G")
