Mildred Marie Marlin

HERSHEY - Mildred Marie Marlin, 85, of Hershey, departed from this life Sept. 29, 2005, at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas.

She was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Cozad to Ray and Nellie Nickelson Griffis. She grew up in the Gothenburg-Farnam area.

On April 17, 1937, she married Charles E. Marlin in North Platte. To this union two children were born. The family lived and farmed in various locations in the area. They moved to the University of Nebraska West Central Research and Extension Center where they lived until her husband retired in 1981. They then moved to rural Hershey. She was first and foremost a homemaker and also worked at various jobs. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved her grandchildren dearly. She also loved to travel.

Mrs. Marlin was a member of the Hershey United Methodist Church and belonged to the UMW and the Stationette Extension Club for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia (Vernon) Orman of Hayes Center; a son, Charles "Chuck" Marlin of Hershey; two granddaughters, Jackie (Dan) Loomis and Sheri (Mike) Hamil-ton, all of rural Hayes County; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel McCance of Hastings; two adopted sisters, Alta Marlin of Riverside, Calif., and Dorthea "Peg" Munden of Augusta, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hershey United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eldon Davis officiating. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
