Mabel Lervig
Mabel Lervig, 94, of Elwood died July 31, 2000, at the Elwood Care Center.
She was born Nov. 28, 1905, near Smithfield to Walter and Adda Lewis Frazell. She attended schools in Smithfield and Elwood. After she graduated from the Elwood High School, she taught country school in Gosper County.
On Feb. 11, 1927, she married Fred Lervig at Norton, Kan. They made their home in Elwood. In 1936, they moved to Nampa, Idaho. They returned to Elwood in 1942. While teaching at Elwood and Farnam schools, she attended Kearney State College and received her degree. She had made her home at the Elwood Care Center since 1994.
She was a 56-year member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge and fishing.
Mrs. Lervig is survived by two daughters, Virginia (LaVerne) Stuehm of Smithfield and Shari (Francis) Gauthier of Grand Island; a sister, Marie Vinzant of Fallbrook, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; three sisters; four brothers; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Elwood with the Rev. Fred Andersen officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge.
