Paul Lenz
Paul Lenz died Sept 27, 2009, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept 4, 1923, to Paul Herman and Katie May Lenz at Moorefield.
Paul attended Moorefield School, graduating in 1941.
He was united in marriage on March 22, 1947, to Iona Faye Earhart at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Moorefield. To this union nine children were born. Paul and Iona were happily married for 63 years.
Paul was active in his community, as well as St. John's Lutheran Church of Curtis. He taught Sunday school for many years and in his later years he was honored to serve as an elder in his church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and spending time with close friends and family. In Paul's younger years he was known to play Santa Claus at the grade school in Moorefield. Paul's true pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Paul farmed for many years and worked at Monroe Tenneco plant in Cozad for 17 years before retiring in 1988.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur; sister-in-laws, Elsie Lenz, Ella Lenz; brother-in-law, Leonard Earhart; and numerous valued friends and relatives.
Paul is survived by his wife, Iona of Moorefield; children, Cheri (Jim) Bopp of Culbertson, Kenneth (Susie) Lenz of Gothenburg, Dale (Laura) Lenz of Oxford, Iowa, Dwight (Nancy) Lenz of Maywood, Jeff (Kimberly) Lenz of Maywood, Kevin (Brenda) Lenz of Seward, Les (Robin) Lenz of Papillion, Katie Lenz of Alliance, Dennis (Tracy) Lenz of Stillwater, N.Y.; brother, Gerald Lenz of Curtis; sister-in-law, Carrie Earhart of Moorefield; 15 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Larry (Jan) Messersmith of Maywood and Mark (Trena) Ehlers of Moorefield.
Visitation will be today, from 1-8 p.m. at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis.
Services will be on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. at the St John's Lutheran Church in Curtis with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will be in the Moorefield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St John's Lutheran Church in Curtis. Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Curtis is in charge of arrangements.
