Dorothy M. Kjar
Dorothy M. Kjar, 87, formerly of Kearney, died Oct. 1, 1995, at the Community Care Center in Sutherland, where she had been a resident since March.
She was born Dec. 28, 1907, at Farnam to Arthur and Jennie Fitch Hicks. She graduated from Farnam High School and attended Kearney Normal School. She then taught in rural schools until she married C. Kronborg Kjar on Aug. 22, 1934, in Farnam. They farmed near Farnam, Gothenburg, Funk and Axtell until retiring in 1977 and moving to Kearney. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1985.
Mrs. Kjar was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Arlene (Robert) Unruh of Wallace and Janice (Jack) Peck of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sons, Raymond (Sandi) of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Dennis of Galeton, Colo.; two sisters, Esther Boyd and Ruth Wintermute, both of Kearney; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or the Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice Program.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James D. Cobb officiating. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and until service time Thursday morning at the church.
Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary at Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
