Millard Richard Johnson, Effie Grace Johnson

Millard Richard Johnson, 92, died Friday morning (Aug. 30, 2002) at the Cambridge Manor Home in Cambridge. His wife, Effie Grace Johnson, 99, died Friday night (Aug. 30, 2002) at the Cambridge Manor.

Millard was born March 7, 1910, at Farnam to George Irvin and Clara (McMichael) Johnson. He grew up at Stockville where he graduated from Stockville High School.

Effie was born March 24, 1903, in Chase County to Andrew and Lillian (Bourne) Smith. She grew up in Chase County and graduated from high school at Franklin. She was a graduate of Doane College at Crete.

On May 23, 1934, the couple were married at Lamar. They spent their lives farming at Stockville until retiring and moving to McCook in 1974. She moved to the Cambridge Manor in 2001. He joined her at the Cambridge Manor in February 2002.

They were members of the Church of Christ in McCook. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Irvin Johnson; and four sisters, Dora Weiss, Jennie Gardner, Rebecca Metcalf Shanholts and Eleanor Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Ralph and Everett Smith; and one sister, Elsie Morse.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary and husband, Fernando Valera of Tucson, Ariz.; his sister, Donna and husband, Ray Swanson of Wauneta; one sister-in-law, Jeri Johnson; four grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann Funeral Chapel at McCook with the Rev. Rick Eldred officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials may be given in their names.

Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
