Paul E. Hyatt
Paul Hyatt, 78, of Elwood and formerly of Farnam, died Oct. 9, 2002, at Holdrege.
He was born June 24, 1924, at Kirk, Colo., to Alvin and Ruth Brown Hyatt. He attended school in rural Custer and Dawson counties. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On June 20 1948, he married Eva Fritz at Eustis. They made their home in Cozad, where he was a mechanic in the alfalfa mills and later worked at Monroe Auto Equipment. In 1964, they moved to Boulder, Colo., where he was in the precast concrete business.
In 1971, they moved to Farnam, where they owned and operated Farnam Lumber. In 1991, they moved to Elwood.
Mr. Hyatt was a member of the Farnam United Methodist Church and the Golden Rod Antique Auto Club. He had a passion for restoring and showing old cars, and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He was also a 20-year volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician at Farnam.
Surviving him are three daughters, Brenda Poggendorf of Elwood, Robyn (Larry Joe) Wilcox of Silver Creek and Janelle (Rodney) Jack of Eustis; nine grandchildren, Shannon and Jody Poggendorf, Miranda, Kirsten and Libby Wilcox, William, Katelyn and Rachel Jack and Coleen (Mike) Cook; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Cook; two sisters, Ruby (Dale) Bartlett of Cozad and Ethel White of Minden; and a brother, Leslie (Evelyn) Hyatt of Moxie, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000; two brothers, Robert and Charles; and a brother-in-law, Frank White.
A memorial has been established.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with the Revs. Bonnie and D.R. "Buck" Linton-Hendrick officiating.
