Archie D. Howat

Archie Dale Howat, son of Elmer and Millie Howat was born in Hastings, Nebraska on February 13, 1929 and passed from this life in the hospital in Gothenburg, Nebraska on January 18, 1960.

When he was two years of age the family moved from the Hastings vicinity to a farm south of Farnam, Nebraska. It was in this community that he received his schooling having graduated from the Farnam High School in 1946. He served in the Korean War. Since this experience he was a truck driver and trucker. He worked on the paving project between Curtis and McCook as a truck driver. In recent months he has been driving a car transport from factory and far western states. His first love and hobby was stock-car racing.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Howat; four brothers, Nick of Palm Dale, California; William of Caldwell, Idaho; Bert of Gothenburg and Adam of North Platte; three nieces and 2 nephews. He was preceeded in death by one brother.

Funeral services were held in the McVay-Olesen Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 21, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lawrence W. Bratt officiating. Mrs. Delores Nickerson and Mrs. Audrey Kotschwar sang, Mrs. Raymond Smith accompanied. Pallbearers were: Gene Johnson, Kenneth Earhart, Gene Hoppe, Elvin Gardner, Clayton Heath and Leroy Tillotson.

Interment was in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.
