Olive Eleanor Hoppe
Olive Eleanor Hoppe, youngest daughter of Frederick Charles and Agnes Hoppe, was born on Oct. 14, 1903, on the farm home northeast of Dana (Gretna), Kan., and departed this life on March 21, 1989, while a patient at Phelps County Hospital, Holdrege, Nebr., at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 8 days.
She attended school at Greenwood, in the vicinity of the farm home.
She was a member of the Greenwood United Brethren Church, and taught the primary and intermediate Sunday school classes. She was a leader in instructing the annual Children's Day program. When the Greenwood Church was discontinued she transferred her membership to the Plum Creek Evangelical United Brethren Church, where she was a faithful member until the rural Plum Creek Evangelical United Brethern Church discontinued its services.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sister, Sophia Otis, Anna Addie, Mabel Hoppe and Agnes Josephine who died in infancy; six brother, John, Frank, Charles, Ross, Arthur and Fred L.
She leaves to mourn her passing and will be sadly missed by her brother, Edwin H. Hoppe and his wife, Lois, of Farnam, Nebr., nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Dolly, as she was known to her relatives and friends, and Aunt Dolly, as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephews, lived her entire life on the home farm in Phillips County. She enjoyed raising chickens and geese, riding horseback, and helping with the farm orchard and the farm work and adorning the farmyard with beautiful plants and flowers.
'Tis hard to break the tender cord,
Where love has bound the heart,
'Tis hard, so hard to say goodbye
And from a loved one part.
Our dear loved one, we must lay thee
In the peaceful grave's embrace.
But thy memory will be cherished,
'Till we see thy Heavenly face.
These verses are from the memorial service of her grandfather, John McTurk Gibson.
Memorial services were held Monday afternoon, March 27, in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with the Rev. D. William Karl Glaser and Rev. Carrie Cesar officiating
Music was furnished by Darrel Gale, Ronald Rose, Russell Rose and Van Bradley, singing "In the Garden" and "In the Sweet By and By."
Casketbearers were Fred W. and Edwin L. Hoppe, Gene and Glen Hoppe, Fred C, and John H. Otis.
Interment was in the Plum Creek Cemetery.
