Leland E. Hopkins
Leland E. Hopkins, 86, formerly of Farnam died Nov. 20, 2002, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long Term.
He was born Oct. 19, 1916, to William Edwin and Maude Gertrude Horn Hopkins at Farnam. He farmed on the family farm ten miles south of Farnam and lived there all of his life until moving to Long Term Care in July 2002.
Mr. Hopkins served in the Medic Corps in the U.S. Army during World War II from Feb. 11, 1942 to Jan. 21, 1946.
Survivors include a sister, Irene Hercy of Gothenburg; two brothers, Loyd of Gothenburg and Earl of Farnam; three sister-in-laws, Alice of Palisade, Ethel of Baker, Ore., and Betty of Omaha; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Myrtle; five brothers, Richard, Oren, Clifford, Harold and Bernard and an infant brother.
A memorial has been established to the Farnam Rescue Unit.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blase Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Linton-Hendrick officiating.
Burial will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell with military honors by the Gothenburg Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, which is in charge.
