Another Pioneer Passes Away
John Hirschmiller was born in Pennsylvania October 11, 1855. He came from that state thirty nine years ago to Dawson county, Nebraska, and homesteaded northwest of Eustis. After a residence of twenty seven years on his farm, he moved to Farnam, Nebr., in 1912, and for the past ten years has made his home in this city.
He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Messenger at Savannah, Ill., in 1892, and to this union were born six children, two sons and four daughters. The boys and one daughter preceded him in death, and the wife of his youth passed away at Eustis during the year 1895.
Mr. Hirschmiller was united in marriage with Mrs. Laurie Pickering March 26, 1896, at Norton, Kan., and for nearly three decades have delighted in the presence of each other.
John Hirschmiller was converted to the Lord Jesus Christ when but a lad, and joined the United Brethren church. Later he united with the Baptist church in Farnam. He lived a consistent Christian life and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, one step-daughter, and a son by adoption. They are respectively; Mrs. Anna E. Knoelder, Cozad, Nebr.; Mrs. Josephine Clement, Farnam, Nebr.; Rosa B. Schmeeckle, Cozad, Nebr.; Cora A. Carlson, Regan, Nebr.; and Henry Hirschmiller of Farnam.
For several years past Mr. Hirschmiller has been a victim of dropsy, and recently a cancer appeared in his system. He has been bedfast for the last twelve weeks.
He departed this life in the triumps of the Christian life at his home in Farnam, October 28, 1924 at 5:10pm. He attained the pilgrim age of sixty-nine years and sixteen days.
Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church in Farnam, Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. B.A. Shively of Cozad officiating. Internment was made in the English cemetery at Eustis, where the remains await that day for which all other days were made.
