Dorthy High
KEARNEY - Dorthy M. High, 79, of Kearney died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Rev. Roy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Cemetery north of Bertrand.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney.
She was born July 27, 1927, in Seward to Everett and Lillian (Hunt) Stevens.
On Aug. 17, 1948, she married Robert High.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Robert and Chris, both of Lincoln; daughter, Anne of Lincoln; brother, Ken Stevens of Farnam; and sister, Gwen Bowen of Palo Alto, Calif.
Additional survivors include her daughters-in-law, Shari High and Mary Ann High, both of Lincoln; grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, Erik, Nick and Karl; sister-in-law, Doris High of Grand Island; and brother-in-law, Keith Fastenau of Bertrand.
She graduated from Farnam High School, attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduated from Peru State College and graduated with a master's degree from Kearney State College.
She worked as a teacher and in social services and was a homemaker. She retired as director of the Kearney Jubilee Center, which she founded.
She was a green thumb gardener. She loved people, especially those in need, and she loved animals wild and domestic. She enjoyed traveling and fishing as hobbies.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Jubilee Center.
